As part of a military family, I spent most of my childhood traveling around the world. I drew everywhere I went. In 2006 I earned a Bachelors of Fine Arts from the College of Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan. I have created advertisements, billboards, websites, and print designs for several large corporations including MGM Grand, Popeye’s Chicken, COX Communications, The Henry Ford, Kid Rock, even a White House dinner invitation.
But ultimately I knew I was meant to paint. I traded in my commute for turpentine. In 2008, I left the East Coast for California, to make my living as a painter. I apprenticed with master painter: Andrea Rushing at the San Diego Academy of Art before returning to Michigan in 2013 and then to Midland, Texas in 2018.
“In her paintings she combines ideologies of the past and present in stylistically lowbrow satire that is both thought provoking and humorous. Tia’s never before seen oil paintings express the power and captivating splendor of horses (and other animals) juxtaposed with whimsical allegory.” – Thumbprint Gallery
